Pick an ink color and save your real signature as a transparent PNG or a JPG.

The signature you sign on paper is the one that matches your ID, your bank records, and the documents you have already signed. This tool keeps that real signature: it takes a photo of it and removes everything that isn’t ink, leaving a clean signature on a transparent background.

The cleanup compares each part of the photo with its surroundings rather than using one fixed cut-off, so uneven light and soft shadows across the page don’t ruin the result. If a few specks remain or thin strokes fade, the Cleanup strength slider lets you fine-tune it, and Rotate 90° fixes a sideways photo.

On a phone, Take photo opens a camera right inside the page, or use Choose image for a photo or scan you already have. Everything happens on your own device: the photo is never uploaded to a server.

Tips for a clean result

Use plain white paper: lined or squared paper leaves its lines in the result.

Sign with a dark pen: black or blue ink works best. Pencil and light colors are too faint to separate cleanly from the paper.

Light it evenly: daylight near a window is ideal. Keep your hand and phone from casting a shadow, and let the signature fill most of the photo.

If something goes wrong: camera, memory, and photo format problems are covered step by step in our photo guide.

Frequently asked questions

How do I turn a photo of my signature into a PNG?

Sign on plain white paper, then take a photo with Take photo or pick one with Choose image. The tool removes the paper background and shadows automatically, and you download the ink as a transparent PNG.

What kind of photo works best?

A dark pen on plain white, unlined paper, photographed in even daylight with no shadow over the page. Get close, so the signature fills most of the photo.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. The background is removed inside your browser, on your own device. Your photo is never uploaded, and nothing is kept after you leave the page.

What does the cleanup strength slider do?

It sets how much of the photo is treated as background. Raise it if specks, paper texture, or shadows remain; lower it if thin parts of your signature start to fade.

Why is there no Take photo button on my computer?

Take photo appears on phones and tablets, where it opens the camera inside the page. On a computer, use Choose image to pick a photo or scan of your signature.

Why does Chrome say “Unable to complete previous operation due to low memory”?

Android closed the browser to free memory while the camera app was open, so the photo was lost. The page reopens with a note. Close other apps and try again, or take the photo with your camera app and use Choose image.

Why does it say my photo format isn’t supported?

The photo is probably HEIC, the format iPhones use, which many browsers outside Safari cannot open. Use Take photo instead, take a screenshot of the photo, or set your iPhone camera to Most Compatible.

Can I change the ink color of my signature photo?

Yes. After the background is removed, pick black, blue, dark blue, or any custom color and the signature is recolored, whatever pen you signed with.

Can I use a scan instead of a photo?

Yes. A scan of your signature on white paper works very well. Save it as a JPG or PNG and open it with Choose image.

How big is the downloaded signature?

Up to 2000 pixels on its longest side, depending on your photo, and cropped tightly around the ink. That is sharp enough for documents and printing.
