How to make a signature from your typed name
Updated 17 October 2026
Don’t want to draw? The Type tab turns your name into a signature using handwriting fonts, from flowing formal scripts to quick, casual pen strokes. Every style previews your own name, so you can compare them side by side before you choose.
Make a typed signature step by step
- Open the signature generator and tap the Type tab.
- Type your name first in the “Your name” box (up to 40 characters). Every style below updates to show it.
- Tap the style you like. The page scrolls down to the preview and the download buttons.
- Want more choice? Tap More styles (8) under the grid for 21 styles in total. Show less hides them again; the style you picked stays visible.
- Pick an Ink color, then tap Download PNG.
Tips for a typed signature that looks real
- Write it the way you sign. Many people sign with a first initial and surname (“J. Smith”) or just their first name, not their full name.
- Fewer letters look more natural. Long names shrink to fit, and quick signatures are rarely fully legible anyway.
- Try a few styles in blue ink. Blue makes a signed copy easy to tell from a photocopy.
Common mistakes and how to fix them
I picked a style and the page jumped to an empty preview
The name box was still empty. Scroll back up, type your name, then tap the style again. The order matters: name first, then style.
A style says it “can’t show some letters in your name”
Your name contains a letter that font doesn’t include. Every style handles common accents such as é, ü and ñ, but letters used in many Central and Eastern European names, such as ł, ř or ő, are missing from some styles, including Kristi, Satisfy, Homemade Apple and Cedarville Cursive. Pick any style that shows your name correctly.
No style can show my name
The handwriting styles support Latin letters only. For names in other scripts, such as Devanagari, Arabic or Chinese, use the Draw tab or upload a photo of your signature instead.
The style tiles show grey bars
The fonts are still loading, which takes a moment on a slow connection. The extra styles only load when you tap More styles, so the first view stays fast.
The download buttons are greyed out
The name box is empty. Type your name and the buttons switch on.
A typed signature is made from a font, so it can be downloaded as PNG or JPG. If you need a file that stays sharp at any size (SVG), draw your signature instead.
