PNG, JPG, SVG or Copy: which download to use

Updated 17 October 2026

Under “Your signature” you’ll find up to four buttons. They all save the same signature, tightly cropped around the ink, but each suits a different job. Every download is high resolution automatically, so there is no size setting to choose.

What each button is for

Download PNG (transparent): use this for almost everything

The background is see-through, so only the ink shows. The signature sits cleanly on a white page, a colored letterhead or a form line. Use it in Word, Google Docs, PDF editors, Canva and most other apps.

Download JPG: when transparency isn’t accepted

The signature on a plain white background. Use it for upload forms or apps that only take JPG, or that show transparent images badly.

Download SVG: for very large prints and design apps (Draw tab only)

PNG and JPG are made of pixels and eventually go soft if enlarged a lot. An SVG stores your strokes as shapes, so it stays perfectly sharp at any size, from a business card to a poster. Use it in Canva, Illustrator, Figma or Inkscape. Many word processors don’t accept SVG, so use PNG for documents. It’s only available for drawn signatures, because typed and photo signatures aren’t made of strokes.

Copy image: paste without saving a file

Copies the signature so you can paste it straight into a document, email or chat: press Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac). It works best on computers. Many phone apps, including the Canva app, won’t paste a copied image; use Download PNG there instead. The button only appears in browsers that support copying images.

Add your signature to a document

  • Microsoft Word: Insert → Pictures → This Device, then choose the PNG. To move it freely over a signature line, set Wrap Text to In Front of Text.
  • Google Docs: Insert → Image → Upload from computer, then choose In front of text in the image options.
  • Canva: Uploads → Upload files, then drag the signature onto your design.
  • PDF editors: look for an option to add an image, and choose the PNG.

Resize it by dragging a corner. Making it smaller never reduces quality, and drawn and typed signatures stay sharp in print up to about 10–13 cm (4–5 inches) wide.

Common mistakes and how to fix them

There’s a white box around my signature

You used the JPG. Download the PNG instead; its background is transparent.

The PNG looks completely black in my phone’s gallery

Your signature is there. Many phone galleries show transparent images on a black background when opened full screen, which hides black ink. It shows normally in documents. Open the JPG if you want to check it in the gallery.

The signature looks blurry

It has been stretched far beyond its size. Make it smaller, or for very large uses draw it and download the SVG.

I can’t find the downloaded file

Look in your Downloads folder. Files are named with the date and time, such as signature-2026-10-17-143205.png, so the newest is easy to spot.

This site creates an image of your signature. Adding it to a document doesn’t make the document legally binding; see our Disclaimer.
